When it comes to your hair and makeup, you want a spectacular look that brings out your best features, enhances your natural beauty and suits your unique personality.
Ragan is a fantastic hair and makeup artist that provides a variety of delicious cakes and other sweet treats for couples and guests at many weddings. I interviewed her for this blog post . How did you start your career in the wedding industry?
Hi, my name is Ragan Sykes and I am on onsite hair and makeup artist! I have been passionate about hair and makeup for as long as I can remember and I want to share my passion with others.
Growing up in the south, beauty pageants were something I enjoyed being a part of. As I grew older, I taught myself how to apply my own stage hair and makeup. My time on stage may have ended but pageantry will always be a part of my life! As former USOA Miss Missouri 2022 I have hair and makeup experience on a state and national level. I’ve placed in Miss Missouri Collegiate America, placed honorable mention at Miss Missouri Teen USA, and won several seasonal titles.
After I decided to pursue hair and makeup as a career, my friends started to recommend me for weddings. The more weddings I did, the more I fell in love with it! It is a special feeling knowing that I have the opportunity to make someone feel special on a day they will never forget. I love what I do and I can’t wait to further my career and grow my small business!
What do you love about doing bridal?
As a hair and makeup artist for weddings, being part of someone's big day is such a huge honor! I adore soaking up all the stories and witnessing the fairy tale come to life. The magic moment when the bride catches a glimpse of her makeup and hair done—it's pure bliss! You can practically feel her excitement as she transforms into the radiant bride she's always dreamed of being. It's like sprinkling a little extra sparkle on an already magical day!
How would you describe your makeup style?
My makeup style is romantic and classic. I like the idea of an elegant and timeless look.
What was your favorite wedding venue to date?
My favorite wedding venue so far has been Heritage Ranch in Sedalia, Missouri. I loved the outdoor ceremony with a barn for the reception area. The venue owners are kind and understanding. It’s a venue that can accommodate multiple themes.
What brands of makeup do you use?
I use multiple brands. Here’s a few of my favorites: NARS, Charlotte Tilbury, Laura Mercier, Urban Decay, Clinique, and more!
What are the top 5 hair products or tools in your kit?
My top hair products/tools are my Bioionic curler, Moroccan Oil hairspray, Color Wow shine spray, my teasing comb, and Big Sexy Hair powder play!
What is the one product you can’t live without?
The one product I absolutely can’t live without is my dry shampoo from Drybar in Columbia!
